New York is captured on film millions of times per year, but it never looks the same twice.
Light flows across the skyline. Mist rolls into Central Park. A lone individual crosses a bridge.
Two people stand in unison beneath the trees, as the day’s last color vanishes. These are
the moments that inspire Lupi Pictures.
Founded by New York-based photographer Paul Lupi, Lupi Pictures captures atmospheric
shots of Central Park, Manhattan architecture and the people who populate the great city —
images which draw from a keen eye for the beauty to be found in everyday occurrences.
A Cinematic View of New York
The photographs are inspired as much by cinema as by photography itself, however: each
one is essentially a film still, capturing a particular moment that suggests there was
something else that happened just before or after the shot was taken.
A couple walking towards the light may have just met, or may be parting for the last time. An
image of two people standing in silhouette against the skyline could be the opening scene
for a relationship, or a love story played out in shadows. Familiar-looking buildings float in
and out of focus, shrouded in mist, snowfall or shifting light conditions — and in doing so,
take on an entirely new and mysterious aura.
Lupi Pictures strives to create images that are less about the scenery and more about the
emotional impact of the scene and its story — and to transport viewers elsewhere, if only for
a moment.
Central Park as a Living Studio
It’s no surprise, then, that Central Park plays a starring role in many of these images.
The park is world-famous, but it wears many different faces throughout the year — and on
any given day.
At dawn it is a secretive, almost primeval landscape, but by sunset the trees and structures
have been transformed by light into something quite different. Rain reveals different greens,
while winter lays bare the branches of Central Park’s numerous trees. Fog rolls in over the
horizon, creating a ghostly illusion that the city of Manhattan has been lifted into the clouds.
Even the people, animals and vehicles that populate the park play an important role in
making the images come alive. By including elements such as walkers, bicyclists, and pets,
Lupi Pictures brings a human scale and a sense of community to its photos, while still
managing to capture the wonder of the city.
Photographs with a Sense of Place
Lupi Pictures is especially well-suited towards commercial, residential, editorial and film/TV
production photography: its aim is to bring a sense of place and of the human condition into
its shots.
For a hotel in Manhattan, it can help provide a unique sense of the local atmosphere to
guests — or it can create an image that will hang in the guest lounge, offering a view that
few have ever seen. In a residential or office setting it can do the same, while for editorial
and commercial use it can provide a compelling and cinematic alternative to standard stock
photography.
The company has photographs available for selected commercial licensing, hospitality
installations, editorial use and fine-art display — and it can also compile a collection based
on a particular property, campaign focus, neighborhood or other criteria.
The Vision
The vision behind Lupi Pictures is simple: to capture the poetry in everyday New York.
The city is dramatic, yes — but its most lasting and powerful images are those that hint,
suggest and imply, such as an isolated figure walking on a distant trail, or the glow of a
window just disappearing behind the skyline.
Lupi Pictures focuses on these kinds of shots — capturing a distinct sense of place and time,
while creating a lasting impression that viewers can connect with on a personal level.
