How to Choose New York Photography for Your Home or Office

A photograph can transform a room, bringing a welcome warmth or the cool calm of a New
York morning or the gentle peace of a park. The right image can add interest to any space,
creating a personal connection to the city.
When considering photography for your home or office there are a few things to think about.

Start with the mood

Think about how you want the room to feel. The gentle light of dawn or dusk is more
welcoming for a bedroom, but a fabulous skyline or a riotous sunset can make a striking
feature for the living room or office.

Choose a personal connection

Perhaps you have happy memories of walking through Central Park or a fond recollection of
sitting and sipping coffee while people-watching from the second floor of a quaint bistro in
Greenwich Village. A photograph with personal meaning will warm the heart and spark fond
thoughts long after the first gasp of delight at discovering the image.

Consider colour

Take care to choose an image that will harmonise with the room. Warm greys and oranges
will echo wood and earthy tones, but cool blues and greens will create a different ambience.
A photograph in similar hues will blend happily with the furnishings, while contrasting shades
may need careful balancing to avoid a garish effect. Think about the textiles in the room and
the dominant colours.

Get the size right

A large photograph will look fabulous mounted on the wall above the sofa or sideboard, but
smaller images are better suited to more delicate furniture like a writing desk. To see how a
photograph will look in your space, measure the intended site and mark the paper with the
intended dimensions. This will help you get an idea of how the image will appear in the
room. You should also take into account the width of any frame you choose, as well as the
mount if you wish to mat the photograph.

Keep framing simple

A slim black frame will do a fabulous job of complementing a photograph of the city, but a
lighter mount might be preferable for a more delicate landscape. It’s always a good idea to
leave some space on all sides of the photograph, so you will need to factor this in when
considering the scale.
At Lupi Pictures, my photography celebrates the city and its many moods. I hope that you
will find something in my portfolio that will become a favourite and a valued possession.
